Jiribam, March 05 2009::
Yet another Lok Sabha election is round the corner, but the denizens of Jiribam sub-division have nothing to cheer about or expect any hope out of the election as the sub-division has been ignored till date by every MP elected from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
In fact, the people of Jiribam have never seen the face of any MP nor any MP had ever visited the sub-division after being elected to power with their support.
One social activist succinctly summed up the predicament of the people when he questioned that what more injustice could be done upon the people of Jiribam where the people are compelled to vote for MP candidates without seeing or knowing them not even in posters.
''Forget about implementation of any beneficial scheme for the people of Jiribam from their MP fund, we, atleast, want the MP elected by us to be seen once in the five years of his /her tenure', the social activist added.
One politician who wished to remain anonymous observed that it is an irony that Jiribam being a part of Imphal East district falls under the Outer Parliamentary Constituency.
This arrangement is very unfortunate and rather confusing to the people of the sub-division.
Expressing the same sentiment, one crestfallen voter lamented that enough injustice has been done to the people of Jiribam by the Government by placing them in the place (Outer Parliamentary Constituency) where one is forced to vote for a candidate but has no rights to contest the election.
Another frustrated voter said that he does not want anything but pleaded to see the MP elected by one of his precious votes.
'If the present trend of neglecting the people of Jiribam by the elected MPs continues, the day is not far when the people of Jiri refrain themselves from exercising their franchise in the future Lok Sabha election', the voter added.
