A public hearing organised by the People Union for Human Rights, UP at Dr Ambedkar Maha Sabha Library complex, Lucknow on October 27 and 28 has unanimously resolved to demand withdrawal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 from all over India.
Speaking to reporters today at MAFYF office, its secretary in-charge Premjit Kshetrimayum informed that following an invitation from the People Union for Human Rights to MAFYF, it organising secretary Yumnamcha Taibangnganba, social activist Irom Singhajit and himself participated in the public hearing held on the theme "Impunity".
During the hearing, Irom Singhajit presented a detail account of the impact of AFSPA on Manipuri society.
After hearing the detailed account, the delegates asserted that they extended moral support to the massive people's movement undertaken to repeal AFSPA from all over Manipur, conveyed Premjit.
After a thorough deliberation on AFSPA, the meeting resolved that the draconian Act should be repealed from all over India.
Urging for implementation of the resolution, copies of a memorandum were submitted to the President, Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
