Birds rescued

Volunteers of People for Animal (PFA), Thoubal have rescued two migratory birds from two poachers at Langthabal yesterday.
The team rescued two live jack snipes (Schedule IV bird) from Md Azad Khan (38) s/o Md Mohamad and Md Narul Haque (22) s/o Md Beladali Khan of Sora Awang Leikai, said a release.
One dead jack snipe, one Maruti van (MN-04A-8306) and four nets were also recovered from the duo.
The hunters along with the seized items were handed over to Kakching Police Station, added the release.
In another development, one Pukhoihongbam Nilamani of Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai handed over an injured kite to the volunteers of PFA Thoubal on December 19 .
On the otherhand, three boys Sh Ranjan, P Ramesh and P Tondomba of Khongjom Langathel also handed over four eastern grass owl chicks to PFA Thoubal on December 20 .
Saying that large number of migratory birds visit the State during mid winter, the release urged the Government to award severe punishment to the poachers.
