The National Dedication Celebration Day was observed today in commemoration of the 159th death anniversary of Maharaj Narsingh along with paying rich floral tributes.
Organised under the aegis of Maharaj Narsingh Memorial Committee, Imphal, the observance commenced with people coming to pay floral tribute and homage at the Royal Cremation site of Maharaj Narsingh since early morning and rendering of Sanskirtan.
Apart from gun salute, guard of honour was also given to the departed soul by observing two minutes silence.
Tarpan was also offered in memory of all those who laid down their lives during the 'Seven Years Desertation'.
After offering of the floral tribute, the main function of the National Dedication Celebration Day was held at Kangla Hall with MLA E Kunjakishore as chief guest, MLA RK Anand as guest of honour and E Sonamani Singh as president.
At the occasion, awards were also presented to eight persons/institutions in recognition of their outstanding contribution in various fields.
The eight awardees are Soubam Gouradhan Singh in the field of art and culture; Millo Tara in the field of agriculture; SI Moirangthem Samu Singh in the field of police service; M Haridas Singh in the field of education; Eden Children Home at Tolloi Junction, Ukhrul from among the children homes, Union Taekwondo Academy, Keishampat in the field of sports, Sanasam Sanjita Devi for being the female topper in HSLC examination and the National Dedication Celebration Day E Manjit Singh Memorial Award to Rupmahal Theatre.
Speaking at the function, MLA Kunjakishore said that the present generation should try to emulate the spirit of patriotism shown by Maharaj Narsingh.
MLA Anand observed that the commemorative function of Maharaj Narsingh should be expanded so that every persons is aware of the courage and dedication of Maharaj Narsingh.
Former Minister Gangmumei Kamei was the main speaker who spoke about Maharaj Narsingh and his contributions to the society at the commemorative function.
