Imphal, June 30 2010:
Along with organising a pineapple festival for the first time in L Jangnomphai village under Saitu Assembly Constituency, former Minister Ngamthang Haokip has expressed optimism that it would help in improving the financial condition of the farmers and the villagers of the assembly segment.
It is said that around 4 lakh pineapples are presently in growth at Jangnomphai village, which is a settlement of only around 35 households.
With each of the household cultivating at an average of around 10,000 pineapples in their respective farms, the villagers can expect to earn anywhere between Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,000 in a year, thus helping in their financial condition.
Inaugurating the festival as the chief guest, former Minister Ngamthang Haokip observed that participation of Meitei community in the festival held at Jangnomphai village has re-demonstrated unity and integrity of people of the State.
He also appealed for expansion of pineapple cultivation in other neighbouring villages so as to help in augmenting the income of the State.
With ADC election over and the prospect of a Council led by Congress in Sadar Hills, there can be development from grassroots level, he hoped.
In connection with the organisational election of MPCC, Ngamthang mentioned that court case over the appointment of one Th Shantikumar as BRO in connection with Nungba BCC election is against Article 27 (G) of the Congress party's constitution.
The crisis within Congress party should be resolved within the political organisation and as Shantikumar is not a member of the party he do not deserve the assignment, the former Minister asserted.
