Imphal, March 31 2009:
Instead of the earlier arrangement of counting the votes of the election to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency along with setting up counting centres at Jiribam and Kangpokpi, the Election Commission of India has instructed the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of the State to conduct the counting at the district headquarters.
However, taking note of the problems likely to be encountered with regard to security arrangement and transportation of the EVMs in case of shifting the counting centres from Jiribam and Kangpokpi to the district headquarters, the CEO has written to the Commission for allowing to count the votes in the same earlier manner.
To this, the Commission has replied back stating that the opinions of the election observers would be taken into consideration before giving any commitment in this regard.
