The State Government has today despatched the first phase of the relief materials for the people of Chandel district who are at the verge starvation after their food crops have been destroyed by rodent in the wake of Bamboo flowering phenomenon.
The first consignment of the relief materials meant for the people living in 120 villages under Khengjoi, Chakpikarong and Moreh Block of Chandel district had been flagged off by MLA of Chandel Assembly Constituency Thangkhulun Haokip from Chandel district headquarters today.
The relief materials have been sanctioned under the Central Relief Fund.
Out of total 9874 quintal of rice sanctioned, for the first phase of relief distribution the trucks carrying 180 quintal of rice meant for the people of Khengjoi block and another 30 quintal of rice meant for the people of Chakpikarong block have been flagged off by the MLA from the district headquarters.
Speaking at the occasion, the MLA appealed to all the people and the organisations not to cause any disruption in the transportation of the relief materials meant for the affected villagers who are at the verge of starvation.
He also assured that the Government would be able to provide all the necessary relief materials, specially the required rice quantity to the affected people of the district by March next.
The transporters have also been entrusted to do the needful in this regard, he added.
Deputy Commissioner of Chandel District Ashokumar was also present at the occasion.
