The People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) formally kick-started its election campaign in Ukhrul district by opening an office here today.
The PDA has fielded sitting MP Mani Charenamei as its candidate of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency which would go to poll in the first phase on April 16. Addressing at the inaugural function of the election campaign at the Town hall of Ukhrul district headquarters, PDA president M Maringa pledged to work for bringing concrete and long lasting peace in the entire North Eastern region and strove for justice by setting right the wrongs.
He also announced that 8 Independent MLAs have already given their consent to give full support to the PDA and its candidate in the election.
Interacting with The Sangai Express on the sideline of the election campaign, personal secretary of MP Mani Charenamei, B.Kadenlung said that the allegation made by one Abonmei on was totally uncalled for and baseless.
The false allegation was intended to mislead the people and tarnish the image of the MP.
In fact some of the co-workers have already sought apology from the MP, the Kadenlung added.
Setting record straight on some of the points raised in the allegation, Kadenlung explained that the National Mission on Bamboo Plantation is a joint venture undertaken by registered body/NGO and the MP is only a recommending authority.
Kadenlung further clarified that the construction work at Keihao in Senapati district is near completion but Shungripha village of Solaland under Kasom Khullen sub division Ukhrul had been wrongly written as Keihao in Senapati district and the error had been duly rectified.
In an exclusive interview, Charenamei stated that copy of his 15-point vision statement would be distributed among the people soon and assured that not a single point will not be neglected when he is elected.Some of the main points enumerated in the election manifesto of the PDA include protection of land forest and mineral resources, Naga unification and other indigenous people of the State of Manipur and the peace process, land laws for the hill areas of Manipur, the village authority law, inter district link roads and bus services, hill university, electricity and water supply, educational institutional for every sub-divisional headquarters, community health centers, tribal sub-plan scheme for valley tribals, tribals market at Imphal, increment of four A/Cs in the hill areas of Manipur, Manipur Legislative Council, third Lok Sabha seat, Tribal Advisory Commission, State Investigation Agency (SIA), protection against illegitimate urbanization in the hill areas, protection of human rights, environment and ecology, social harmony and co-existence and tourism and border trade.
