Imphal, December 22 2008:
Asserting that around 34/45 candidates selected for college Lecturers as per the results declared by MPSC on December 15 submitted their eligibility documents about two years later after the last date of form submission, AMSU and DESAM has accused the MPSC authority of indulging in gross irregularity, corruption, manipulation and nepotism.
A joint press release issued by AMSU and DESAM alleged that MPSC removed 18 posts of Philosophy and Education as against the Cabinet decision adopted on June 12, 2006 and these posts were adjusted by adding some subjects like Bio-Chemistry, Defence Studies, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Sociology and Electronics which were not included in the Cabinet notification.
While last date of form submission for some subjects was fixed on November 30, 2006, last date of form submission for the subjects of Home Science, Computer Science and Economics was fixed on March 19, 2007, they recalled.
However, many candidates who were then holding only MA/MSc certificates without fulfilling the eligibility criteria such as NET, JRF or PhD were allowed to submit their forms.
At the time of the interview held on May 30, 2008, these candidates submitted their necessary documents/certificates under a tacit understanding with the MPSC authority.
One candidate selected for Lectureship in Computer Science could not produce the MPhil certificate even on the day of the interview, alleged the two student bodies while questioning the conduct of MPSC on the same matter.
Questioning as to why the interview was held two years later, it concluded that the interview was deliberately delayed waiting for some candidates to fulfil the eligibility criteria prescribed by the UGC.
On the other hand, the request of many students who fulfilled the eligibility criteria during the intervening period of two years to publish a new advertisement for recruitment of College Lecturers so that they can join the interview was turned down by the MPSC.
Citing a ruling of the Supreme Court that no one has the right to be candidate of recruitment test/interview by submitting eligibility documents after the scheduled last date of submission, AMSU and DESAM claimed that they have learnt about 35 candidates submitting their documents after the last date.
These candidates have also been selected for Lectureship.
Alleging that the recent recruitment of College Lecturers was an open act of corruption, the two student bodies appealed to the Government and authority concerned to probe into the matter.
They also asked to hold back offer forms of these candidates until the investigation is completed.
