Imphal, December 18 2008:
A Sekmai bound LPG tanker (MN01/6754) hijacked by unidentified persons from near Don Bosco School, Maram at around 11 am on December 16 was rescued by troops of the 57 Mountain Division later in the day, informed a PIB (DW) release issued today.
The tanker arriving from Sivsagar (Assam) was taken to a secluded place near Sangkhomai with the hijackers instructing the driver to call up the owner for securing his and assistant driver's release by handing over the demanded ransom amount, it detailed.
Informing that on recieving information a party of the 22 Assam Rifles trailed the vehicle to finally find the same in secluded area, the PIB (D/W) release added that truck and drivers have been handed over to Mao police station.
