As in other parts of the country, the State Government observed Vijay Diwas today in commemoration of India army's victory over Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
The observance function held at the conference hall of Rajya Sainik Board, Lamphelpat was graced by Health and Family Welfare Minister Pheiroijam Parijat and Education Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest and president respectively.
In his address as chief guest of the observance, Parijat said that the sacrifices made by the army for the protection of the nation should not be forgotten by the people.
A democratic country like India needs a disciplined force.
Yet the people seem to sometime forget the role of the army, he added.
In his presidential address, L Jayantakumar said the present generation should get inspiration from the sacrifices made by the Indian army during the Indo-Pak war.
Today's observance function was attended by top civil and police officials, ex-servicemen and their family members.
Offering floral tribute to the brave army personnel who laid down their lives for the cause of their motherland and guard of honour given by a contingent of the 2nd Manipur Rifles were the main highlights of the observance function.
