The Janata Dal (United) Manipur State Unit has conveyed its support to the campaign of Irom Chanu Sharmila against AFSPA 1958.In a statement, it asserted that the incumbent 60 MLAs of the State and the Union Government would be held responsible if any untoward happens to Sharmila.
Taking strong exception to the statement of Chief Minister O Ibobi who ruled any possibility to repeal the Act from Manipur, the United Mothers' Organisation (UMO) has acknowledged the unparalleled struggle of Irom Sharmila.
Extending absolute solidarity to the six year long struggle of Sharmila, a wakat meepham was staged today at Top Khongnangkhong by the volunteers of the Public Club and the local Meira Paibis.
Joining the outcry against AFSPA and extending solidarity to Sharmila, students and Peira Paibis staged wakat meephams today at Macha Leima School, Palace Compound, Thoubal Bazar, New Checkon, Singjamei Super Market, Thoubal Babu Bazar and Kakching Khunou.
Late reports informed that torch rallies were taken out at several places tonight showing solidarity to Sharmila.
Such torch rallies were undertaken by Meira Paibis of Sanjenbam area at Sanjenbam, at Khurai Lamlong Bazar by the local Meira Paibis and at Top Khongnangkhong Porompat and at Top Moirang Kampu.
