Bodies allege NSCN (IM) harassments

The All Zeliangrong Students' Union-Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur have alleged involvement of NSCN (IM) cadres in the arbitrary detention and assault of civilians at Leishok (Sobunglong) village on November 8 night.
According to a joint statement issued by ZSUM chairman D Stephen Zeme and AZSU assistant general secretary Nicodemus Riamei some NSCN (IM) cadres held women and children captive on the said night apart from assaulting eight villagers, including the village authority chairman, secretary and a former member.
Naming the eight persons allegedly roughed up by cadres of the rebel group as Kadunchung Gonmei (chairman), Poudinchung Kamei (secretary), Lungaipou Gonmei )ex-member), Kadingampou Gonmei, Poungampou Gonmei, Poungamlung Gonmei, Kaphiangpou Gonmei, Gairipou Kamei and Maliakngam Kamei, the joint statement condemned the act in the strongest term.
Denouncing the act of atrocities as violation of civil rights, natural right of the people and right to life of the citizens, the organisations question reason and motive of the assault.
Highlighting that the civilian population and public leaders are exposed to various threats and rampant intimidation for quite some time, the statement affirmed that every citizens have the right to live in peace rather than compel them to cow down under military diktats.
While appealing to all concerned to ensure that such unwanted act do not recur, the statement said 'despite all differences amongst the Naga community, let us unite ourselves with the bond of brotherhood, love, peace and mutual understanding.
We shall continue to aspire for peaceful co-existence, love, non-violence and mutual understanding in our community to build our nation together, reiterated the organisations.
