Five-day workshop on model rocketry starts

A five-day State level workshop on model rocketry organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) has kick started at Manipur Science Aquarium, DM College complex today.
Senior Engineer of Pathani Samanta Planetarium, Bhubaneshwar, Dr Jayadev Kar and MASTEC Executive Director Th Surendranath were the guest of honour and president of the opening function respectively.
Speaking at the function, Dr Jayadev Kar said that rocket was first invented in China in 1000 AD for entertainment purposes.
Various forms of rockets with varied uses and capabilities were later developed by different countries, he added.
Th Surendranath said that India has so far developed Prithvi-I, Prithvi-II, Dhanu, Agni-I, Agni-II and Akash missiles.
These are all different forms of rockets, he added.
Surendranath also remembered the contribution of former President APJ Abdul Kalam in India's rocketry programmes.
Demonstrations, practical training and interaction sessions on different forms of rockets will be the main highlights of the five-day programme.
