Principal Secretary(Edu-S) rests case on merit criteria

Principal Secretary (Education-S) Dr J Suresh Babu has categorically stated that the recruitment process for Primary and Upper Primary teachers for which results were declared recently was done in a transparent manner, based on merit.
Speaking to media persons at the conference hall of Old Secretariat this afternoon, Dr Suresh Babu explained the whole recruitment process using graphic presentations.
The selection of Primary and Upper Primary teachers under SSA was conducted in two stages.
In the first stage, candidates who passed BEd or DEl.
Ed and secured 50 per cent marks in Class XII or degree were short-listed.
Pointing out that the Government has the responsibility to maintain reservation policy, the Principal Secretary said that all the vacancies under un-reserved category could not be outrightly allotted to BEd/DEl Ed candidates from other categories.
In the second stage, merit list of all candidates who possess Bed/DEl.
Ed but could not be accommodated in List A and candidates without BEd was prepared.
The List A contains candidates with BEd/DEl.Ed.
From this list, candidates were selected for filling up the remaining vacancies, subject to reservation policy.
The List-B contains candidates from these categories in order of merit.
The waiting list was prepared from the left over candidates, Dr Suresh Babu explained.
The entire process was done in compliance with the directions of the Government of India and orders of the Gauhati High Court in a transparent manner, based on merit of the candidates, he added.
