The High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Manipur in a special general body meeting held today has resolved that its members would abstain from court works indefinitely with immediate effect till the Union Govt makes a full proof assurance to establish Manipur High Court prior to establishment of Tripura and other separate High Courts in the North East Region.
An HCBA statement issued by its president informed that today's meeting was convened to discuss a report published in State dailies with regard to the Union Law Ministry planning to establish separate High Courts of the State of Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya.
While expressing staunch opposition to the Ministry's move for establishing the High Court in Tripura in the first phase followed by Manipur and Meghalaya, members present at the meeting resolved to send joint representation addressed to the Prime Minister, Law Minister, Union Home Minister and Chief Minister of Manipur would be submitted by HCBA.
