Imphal, January 30 2010:
A new campaign christened "From Gandhi to Sharmila" has been launched from January 30, the death anniversary of MK Gandhi till March 14, the birthday of Irom Sharmila under the aegis of the Just Peace Foundation.
The campaign would be participated by representatives of different civil society organisations based outside the State.
Speaking about the campaign at Manipur Press Club today, managing trustee of the Just Peace Foundation Irom Singhajit said that the campaign was launched today to coincide with the death anniversary of MK Gandhi, the advocate of non-violent movements against the failure of the Government to pay any heed to the 10 year old campaign of Irom Sharmila.
Another trustee Babloo Loitongbam asserted that refusing to listen to Sharmila's campaign is comparable to assassination of MK Gandhi.
The campaign would be undertaken at Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Hong Kong and Seoul.
A written recommendation of the Amnesty International to the State Government to release hunger striker Sharmila was also released at the press meet.
