Imphal, August 28 2011:
The 46th foundation day of the All Manipur Students' Union was observed at its headquarters here today.
Speaking as chief guest at the foundation day anniversary function, MU Human and Environment Science Prof W Nabakumar observed that the present day society is plagued with myriad issues of varied nature.
While noting the people's struggle to impart and receive quality education, Prof Nabakumar attributed the State's backwardness to loss of work culture among the people.
Observing the highly insecure situation prevailing in the State, the Professor underlined the need to do something to address the situation.
It is crucial that students take proactive roles in finding the right path for the society.
He also highlighted the need to re-instill a sense a belonginess to Manipur among those students who are studying outside the State.
The same education system introduced during the colonial period is being followed today.
But this system education cannot provide comprehensive education in the real sense of the term.
It only imparts knowledge, Nabakumar asserted.
The present campaign for quality education seems focused on only producing position holders or securing good marks in exams.
Noting that education is the backbone of any society, Nabakumar underscored the need to link up education with the society as so to make education
more meaningful.
