Farmers go on exposure trip

Imphal, March 25 2011:
Farmers of Chandel district today visited different places of Imphal at the guidance of District Agruclture Officer, Chandel under the Agricultural Technology Mission Agency (ATMA) .
The farmers belonging to Chandel, Tengnoupal, Machi, Khengjoy and Chakpikarong blocks and numbering eight from each block visited Shantipur in Imphal West II where rice is being cultivated with SRI method.
The team then visited Koirou agricultural fields in Imphal East where SRI method is being applied for rice cultivation.
There, one progressive farmer NK Ranjit explained about preparation of agricultural fields and plantation of paddy with SRI method.
The itinerary of the exposure visit also included Kyamgei Mamang Leikai river bank where educated youth are cultivating cabbage.
Around 20,000 cabbage plants are being grown at the farm.
One cabbage weighs as much as four Kgs.
So far, the farm has fetched Rs 80,000 after selling cabbage.
Later, the team observed the research activities being carried out at Central Agricultural University Imphal and Indian Council of Agricutlural Research Lamphelpat.
Talking about the exposure visit, DAO Chandel Kh Jugeshwar said that the aim of the trip is to inspire Chandel farmers to cultivate different crops in scientific manner in hill areas.
