Lamka, January 22 2010:
Following the ultimatum served by Manipur Tribals Council (MTC) over holding of district council elections, the State Government has given written assurance that district council election would now be held at the earliest, reports our CCpur correspondent.
The Government's assurance, a copy of which was accessed by this correspondent, said that delimitation process has been completed and already notified in the extra ordinary gazette.
In view of the amendment to the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act 1971, certain procedures were required for holding the election.
Nevertheless election to the district council would now be taken up by the State Election Commissioner, and would now be held at the earliest, said the Government memo signed by Under Secretary (Hills) Seikholet Lhangum.
