A meeting of the Sanamahi cult followers held today at Sanamahi Lainingkol, Langmaiching has resolved to seek inclusion of this sect in the Scheduled Tribe list.
The meeting also resolved to urge the President, Prime Minister and other relevant authorities on the matter.
The meeting presided by president of the Laiyingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup head office O Menjor also adopted several other resolutions after serious deliberations.
The resolutions include identification of Sanamahi cult followers in the same category with other indigenous ethnic groups of the State.
It resolved that Sanamahi cult followers being indigenous people of the land ought to be identified as schedule tribes under the Indian Constitution.
Besides the President and the Prime Minister, the meeting also decided to urge upon the Governor and the Chief Minister of Manipur to include Sanamahi followers in the Scheduled Tribe list.
Other resolutions of the meeting include effective coordination among scholars and civil organisations of the State and to form an adhoc working committee on the matter with Laishram Babloo as convenor.
The meeting also decided to organise seminars, workshops and a people's convention as to bring a consensus on the matter.
