Tamenglong, February 28 2009: A public information programme named 'The people and the Government -- Interpersonal communication campaign on flagship programme' was held at the Indoor Stadium here today.

The campaign organised by the District Information Office, Tamenglong was graced by ZEO Tameng-long N Jacob and former ZU president Dm Ngantho-nang as chief guest and president respectively.

The technical session was moderated by APO (Administration), DIPR, Government of Manipur A Balkrishna Sharma while four resource persons spoke on four different subjects.

Speaking as chief guest, Jacob observed that such programmes will help in educating the masses who are needed to actualise the developmental program-mes being implemented by the Government.

In his presidential address, Nganthonang noted that both the public and the Government agents need to play their parts well in running h Government.

Democratic Government like ours need active participation of the people as it is a Government by the people, for the people and of the people, he added.

Resource persons who participated in the programme emphasised on the present function and supposed aims and objects of the respective flagship programmes of the Government of India.

Regarding SSA and Mid-day Meal Scheme, they pointed out that altogether 10207 students under Primary section comprising 8100 under ZEO and 10207 under Autonomous District Council, Tamenglong and 2478 students of all ZEOs under Primary level are being benefited in the district.

In Agricultural sector, various programmes like distribution of quality seeds, high yielding seeds, farm mechanisation, crop competition and farmers' training, etc are being taken up to improve food productivity in the district, they noted.

Elucidating on watershed management scheme as one of the resource persons, Project Officer of DRDA Tamenglong Kami-uthuan Kamei said that the main of the project is to harvest every drop of rainwater for the purpose of irrigation, plantations as well as for drinking purposes.

At pre-sent 33 villages ion Tousem block, 70 in Nungba-I, 44 in Nungba-II, 25 in Tamei and 33 villages in Tousem Block are being benefited under IWDP Hariyali Project, he added.

DC feted: The newly posted Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong Jacintha Lazarus was today greeted and felicitated by the staff of Tamenglong District Hospital.

The new head of the district administration was also presented with gifts.

The newly posted DC also inspected the complex of the District Hospital and assured all possible assistance in improving the condition of the hospital.
