National Alliance of People�s Movement is set to join hands with various civil society organisations of Manipur in launching a three-day mass movement demanding the repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and to restore democracy in Manipur at Imphal sometime in the second week of September this year.
Announcing this during a press conference at the office of Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) here this afternoon, State in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir of National Alliance of People�s Movement Faisal Khan said that it is a shame for the Indian Government in front of the International community for imposing Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and denying the democratic rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and North Eastern States.
�So with the main objective of exerting pressure for removal of the draconian Act from the whole of India, representatives of National Alliance of People�s Movement will join hands with representatives of various civil organisations of Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, etc and launch a mass movement in September,� Faisal Khan informed.
As part of this proposed movement, a team of representatives of National Alliance of People�s Movement led by its National convenor Sandeep Panday will arrive at Imphal in the second week of September to hold a meeting with representatives of the civil organisations here.
After the meeting, a three-day long movement would be launched at Imphal in protest against the prolonged imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and demanding restoration of democracy, he added He further informed that during their stay at Imphal, the representatives of National Alliance of People�s Movement would also visit the family of Irom Chanu Sharmila who has been on a fast unto death agitation demanding removal of the Act, the family of Yumlembam Sanamacha whose whereabouts have not been known after he was picked up by security forces and other victims of AFSPA, apart from meeting representatives of various women organisations, Muslim organisations and journalists of the State.
