JDDC, Govt ink 12 point MoU, proposed total bandh called off

The State Government and the Jiribam District Demand Committee finally came to an understanding today and signed a 12-point Memorandum of Understanding.
The MoU was signed by Chief Secretary DS Poonia and Secretary to Chief Minister Sumant Singh on behalf of the State Government while the JDDC was represented by its president Th Gini Devi and convenor M Maipaksana.
Following the agreement, the JDDC has withdrawn its decision to impose a total bandh from November 10 .
The two-hour long meeting was also participated by representatives of AMUCO, NIPCO, IPSA, CLK and UPK.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Maipaksana conveyed that the JDDC compromised its stand a bit taking into account the suffering of the people, and the two sides agreed on creation of Jiribam district after the district re-organisation committee submits its report.

Informing that the Government agreed to create new sub-division namely Borobekra out of the existing Jiribam subdivision Maipaksana said that one SDPO would also be posted for the two sub-divisions.
Another point agreed by the two sides was empowering ADC Jiribam and Additional SP Jiribam with all the powers entitled to a DC and SP.
Accordingly Golarthol police out-post would be upgraded to a police station.
It was also agreed to open Science stream at Jiribam aided college.
Upgrading Borobekra High School to the level of Higher Secondary School and construction of a library building at Jiribam were some other points of the agreement.
Release and withdrawal of cases filed against Rajkumar who fasted in pursuit of Jiribam district demand was another point.
IPSA vicepresident Elangbam Johnson said that they initiated informal talks with the United Naga Council.
He further informed that a formal letter would be sent to the UNC to pave way for dialogue towards bringing solution.
