Interaction session, inauguration of a volleyball tournament, stage play and presentation of cultural items marked the first foundation anniversary of Tamenglong-based Dih Cham daily at the district headquarters yesterday.
According to a release of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union the foundation anniversary celebration also coincided with the World Press Day observance which was jointly organised by Tamenglong District Working Journalists' Union and AMWJU at the district's indoor stadium.
The twin observations were held with Chief Executive Officer of Tamenglong Autonomous District Council RK Ragaisin as the chief guest and AMWJU vice president Ratneshori Goswami as the functional president.
In his speech, Ragaisin highlighting all round backwardness urged the media representatives to visit and assess deplorable conditions gripping the district in general and its interior areas in particular to draw attention of the State Govt.Presenting the presidential speech, Ratneshori strongly opined that through publication of Dih Cham newspaper people of the district could express and share their views which is a vital ingredient for Tamenglong district to stride forward.
Joining the celebration general secretary of AMWJU Jinendra maibam deliberated on 'Freedom of press: Its power and limitation', and 'Media as people's voice: Pre and Post Independence'.
The delegates also entertained queries from the impressive gathering.
Editor of Dih Cham daily Ramkung Palmei narrated working atmosphere and stature of his venture.
While the volleyball competition is being participated by 16 teams, the celebration was lit-up with artistes of Song and Drama Division, Imphal staging a play on Haipou Jadonang in addition to martial artistes displaying their thangta skills.
