Manipur Police sports Club (MPSC) opened its campaign in the sixth edition of S Birendra Super Division football league tournament 2005 with a solitary goal win over Sagolband United at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium as the SSU, Singjamei versus TRAU, Tiddim Road and NACO, nambul Mapal versus SAI RC matches ended on an identical 1-1 draw.
Sanaton scored the only goal of the match for MPSC converting from the penalty spot in injury time as referee penalised SU when Ratan warded off a Th Rohen header using his hand.
The penalty attempt was itself clouded in controversy as the referee insisted on rekick when Sanaton missed the mark with the first shot with the opponent players vociferously disputing the official's decision to no avail ultimately.
Sanaton had another crack at the goal as the assistant referee ruled that the SU custodian had overstepped his position.
The second attempt was successful.
In the second match between SSU and TRAU, David Kamson put the former ahead in the 36th minute but O Sanatomba rescued TRAU with the equaliser in the 59th minute.
The last match of the day between NACO and SAI RC also witnessed a keen contest with Nepolian providing the breakthrough for the former seven minutes into play.
