UN's B'day : RPF details genesis

On December 14, 1960, the UN General Assembly took the resolution on "Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and People" .
After a series of convention and threadbare discussion among the member countries, the UN General Assembly made several declarations.
The foremost being, it is gross violation of fundamental rights if any country is occupying another nation, and it is against the UN Charter and the universal goal of maintaining peace on earth.
All nations have the right to self determination and by exercising this right, each nation can determine their political, economic, cultural and developmental courses of their own choice.
Independence of a nation cannot be delayed on the pretext of the occupied nation's underdevelopment socio-economic and political status.
Colonial States should not oppose or try to repress armed liberation movements waged by the occupied nations with military force, and the colonial States should not disturb the geographical boundaries of the
occupied nations.
All measures should be taken up so that the occupied nations can achieve freedom and the necessary strength to safeguard their sovereignty.
Such measures should be taken up without any discrimination based on race, culture or religion.
Any attempt to disturb the integrity or geographical boundary of a nation is against the principles of the UN.
The last declaration of the General Assembly was, all member nations should uphold the UN declarations on right to self-determination of each and every nation, non-intervention in the internal matters of a nation by another nation and mutual respect of the sovereignty of each nation, RPF explained.
Since the day Manipur was forcibly merged into the Indian Union after king Bodhchandra who was then only a constitutional head with no political power was forced to sign the Merger Agreement on October 15, 1949, people of Manipur have been waging a liberation against the alien force.
According to the UN General Assembly's Resolution No 1514 (XV) of December 14, 1960, the forced merger of Manipur into the Indian Union was not legitimate.
Such illegal occupation should be opposed and one must support the liberation movement.
The Government of India's alleged act of deploying heavy military force and resorting to unrestrained repressive measures against the people of Manipur is against international laws.
There is a UN principle under which international community can and must support the struggle of the Manipuri nation for their right to self determination, RPF asserted.
The fundamental essence of the UN principles is to prevent occupation and suppression of a nation by any more powerful nation.
But this very essence of the UN principles has become highly questionable in view of the alleged occupation of Manipur and suppression of its people by the Government of India for a protracted period.
Another resolution of the UN General Assembly adopted in 1978 declared that any occupied nation can 'use' force against imperialist forces in their struggle to achieve the right to self determination.
On the other hand, the UN prohibits use of military forces by imperialist countries in suppressing
liberation movements.
The International Commission of Jurist Report, 1995 openly declared that Kashimiri people, who have been waging a liberation movement, have the right to self determination.
Again, according to UN resolution No 2611 XXV (October 12, 1970), keeping a nation under occupation by another nation for a prolonged period is a crime which challenges international laws and UN principles.
All member countries of the UN should support all kinds of liberation movements waged against imperialist countries.
All prisoners of war captured during wars of liberation should be treated properly, the outfit asserted quoting the resolution of Geneva Convention of Aug 12, 1949 .
