Imphal, October 11:
The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has released chairman of Makui village after allegedly being paid a ransom amount of Rs.15,000, according to Liangmai Naga Council (LNC).
The LNC said that the chairman R Luikammang was abducted on October 6 by the KRA cadres and was released the next day after the villagers paid Rs.15,000 to the Kuki militant outfit.
The Council narrated that a villager from Makui had used some crackers to scare away birds from his paddy field but the KRA charged the Makui village chairman of trying to chase them away by using guns.
The KRA cadres then abducted the village chairman and demanded Rs 30,000 for his release, said the LNC statement.
The statement of the Liangmai body further stated that the villagers somehow, managed to arrange Rs 15,000 and pleaded the KRA cadres for the release of the chairman and subsequently, on October 7, R.Luikammang was released.
Condemning the act of the KRA in the strongest voice, the Liangmai Naga Council said that this was not the first time the KRA cadres had been harrasing the Liangmai community and urged every right thinking person and organisation to condemn the October 6 incident.
The LNC then cautioned the KRA not to repeat such activities in future or else things may not be the same again.
