Imphal, November 20 2009:
The Government is contemplating taking up legal actions against those people who are not entitled to hold BPL and AAY cards but nevertheless taking advantage of these schemes.
An official source said that there have been several cases of MLAs and Ministers issuing AAY and BPL cards to their own people even as these schemes do not encompass those people.
With MLAs and Ministers generously issuing these cards to their favoured people, it has been detected that many people above BPL and enjoying Government salaries are holding AAY and BPL cards.
Taking serious note of these cases of undeserving families holding BPL and AAY cards, relevant Deputy Commissioners have started looking into the matter.
According to the prescribed guidelines, AAY and BPL cards should be given to all BPL and extremely poor families in all the districts.
However, there are some sub-divisions where not a single AAY or BPL card has been issued, conveyed the source.
There are around 4.07 lakh AAY and BPL card holders in Manipur with the latter constituting 1.66 lakh.
Separation of the undeserving and bogus card holders would be completed within a short time and the same would be put up in website within the current month, added the official source.
