Heavy fighting has been reported at Sajik Tampak between MPLF and BSF personnel resulting in the death of six personnel of BSF including a Captain.
Sources said Captain Vivek Saxena from Lucknow was among the six BSF personnel who perished in the exchange of fire which took place at Sajik Tampak area, about 100 kms from here.
The encounter which began yesterday and continued till this evening left several BSF personnel injured, they said.
PTI adds that about three militants died in the encounter.
A spokesman of MPLF, however, claimed there was no casualty on its side.
Sources said the gun battle broke out at 9.30 am yesterday when a BSF party was tired upon by MPLF insurgents.
According to a press statement issued by MPLF today it said heavy fighting ensued till late at night yesterday.
Today around 12.30 pm the MPLF militants were able to repel the BSF personnel it said.
It further said the BSF personnel used bullet proof vehicles and helicopters to force the MPLF militants move away.
More than 20 persons are injured and an Ak, wireless set were also recovered.
The MPLF is using the villagers to see the actual casualties it said.
It also attacked at Sungu post.
The 500 insurgents used latest sophisticated weapons including rockets, rocket launchers and Ak-47 rifles besides other arms.
MPLF was formed by United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Revolutionary People's front (RPF) and People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
Sources said the security forces were unable to push back the insurgents who had made the inaccessible Sajik Tampak area, close to border with Myanmar, as its base camp.
Heavy security reinforcements have been sent to the area.
the MPLF spokesman said its cadres attacked the nearby Sugnu police station under which falls Sajik Tampak late last night.
Official sources confirmed the attack on the police station but casualty, if any, was not yet known as it was located in interior area.
The MPLF spokesman here claimed at least six BSF personnel, including a Captain, were killed and more than 20 injured.
He said the insurgents used sophisticated rocket launchers, grenade launchers and other modern weapons.
He said the insurgents looted one Ak 47 rifle, two bulletproof jackets, one wireless set and some other materials.
