Imphal, January 09:
The government of Manipur is wrongly informing the people of Manipur over the controversial issue of Tipaimukh dam the Committee against Tipaimukh dam today said in a press statement.
This is revealed by the fact that at one time people are informed that MoU has been signed and at the same time stated that it will be signed.
This is nothing but playing with the sentiment of the people the Convenor of the Committee Against Tipaimukh Dam Aram Pamei today said.
The people are misinformed by telling only the merits of the proposed dam, in reality the dam means only for the people of Assam and NEEPCO and not for the people of Manipur.
The only benefit will be only 12 % of the power produced for which Manipur is going to give away land, rivers and other valuable natural resources.
Again it has been reported that Gaikhangam Minister Works and other representatives of Tamenglong district have been entrusted by the government to consult the public leaders in connection with the dam before the signing of the MoU.
None of the leaders have been consulted and in no case people have given their acceptance to the signing of MoU for the construction of the proposed dam.
In such a situation if MoU is signed it may be taken that the government is doing on its own without consulting the people it said.
AK Dam DGM of NEEPCO in a meeting held at the Indoor Stadium of Tamenglong HQ on August 29, 2002 said the dam will not be constructed until the consent of the people is taken.
If dam is constructed it will be against the will of the government it was added.
