One suspected UG cadre was shot dead by 21 Assam Rifles at Arong Nongmaikhong today at around 1:30 pm.
A statement issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S) informed that the individual suspected to be a PLA cadre was killed in retaliatory firing by security forces after he first opened fire towards the troops of 21 Assam Rifles.
The gun fight ensued when troops of 21 AR launched a search operation in Arong area.
As the security personnel approached the site, the UG cadre opened fire and attempted to run away which resulted in the killing of the UG cadre in retaliatory fire.
According to the statement, the word 'TR Ranga' was found tattooed on the hand of the slain cadre.
It is reported that one M-20 pistol and two live rounds were recovered from the deceased.
The deceased wore jean pants and jean jackets.
His ears were not pierced and he looked like a Meitei.
The corpse was retrieved by Kakching police and deposited it at RIMS mortuary.
KYKL cadre arrested : Troops of 21 Assam Rifles arrested one KYKL cadre from Kakching Khunou yesterday.
In a statement, the PRO of Assam Rifles said that the militant was arrested during an operation which was launched following receipt of specific information.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Oinam Birjit Singh (24) of Wangoo.
He was handed over to the Kakching police station today, added the statement.
