Imphal, January 23:
It is not only a question of encroaching upon Govt land at the eastern banks of Imphal River but it could also pose a serious health threat if one notes the unhygienic toilets that have sprung all over the banks of the river as a good amount of the water supplied by the PHED is also drawn from this river.
Though the encroachers were evicted some time back, they have returned with a vengeance this time and Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has already issued strict instructions to evict the encroachers from the eastern side of Imphal River.
A well placed source informed The Sangai Express that the toilets built on the banks of Imphal River empty into the river and as this river serves as the water source for the PHED to supply drinking water to the people, it could prove serious threat to the health of the people, if the encroachers are not checked.
To dismantle the unhygienic toilets and encroachers, the CS has instructed MAHUD and DCs to do the needful.
A number of unhygienic or kaccha toilets now dot the eastern bank of Imphal river in between Minuthong and Sanjenthong, polluting the river and posing a grave threat to the health of all.
