Imphal, December 10 2009:
Along with extending full support to Independent candidate Hanjabam Jaydev alias Gandhi, Left parties, which are not happy with the leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, have begun election campaigns independently to defeat of the Congress party in the by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency.
CPI is a partner in the SPF Government and will not be nominating any candidate.
The Left parties which have come out openly to campaign for Jaydev include CPI (M), All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) .
BJP and MPP have already announced their support to Jayadeva.
Addressing a press conference with the leaders of the three Left parties here this afternoon, State secretary of CPI (M) Sarat Salam informed that the decision to support Jayadeva was taken during a joint meeting after taking into consideration of the prevailing political situation in the State.
Jaydev is a strong contender who can defeat the Congress candidate.
Accordingly, the Left parties have also launched an independent election campaign for Jaydeva.
The Left parties would unmask the anti-people policies of the Congress led Government to the public.
Apart from house to house visit, street corner meetings as well as public meetings would be conducted to generate public support for Jaydev and defeat the Congress candidate, Sarat said.
Stating that Left parties would take the responsibility for any problems that may arise during the course of the campaign, Sarat assured that no inconvenience would be caused to Jayadeva as a consequence of the campaign of the Left parties.
However, the Left parties would at any cost join the campaign with BJP which is also supporting Jaydev.
Chairman of All India Forward Bloc K Bimol-chandra expressed confidence that with the support of the Left parties over and above the support of the BJP and MPP Jayadeva would definitely defeat Congress candidate and emerge winner in the by-election.
The by-election is a test on whether people still have faith on the anti-people Govt or not.
Defeat of the Congress party would pave way for the political change in the State.
RSP secretary N Ratankumar asserted that the Left parties have begun an independent election campaign to defeat Congress party and to put an end to the rule of the anti-people Government.
While launching the campaign, the Left parties would also closely monitor the political strategies being adopted by the Congress party to woo the voters.
Secretariat member of CPI (M) Kshetrimayum Shanta categorically stated that as long as CPI continues to remain in the SPF Government, the three Left parties would never go along with CPI.
Independent Jayadeva who was also present during the press conference expressed his gratitude to the Left parties for extending their support and appealed to all for ensuring smooth conduct of the by-election.
