Trucks damaged by JDDC supporters

Jiribam, October 09 2011:
Many Tata trucks suffered damage when strike supporters pelted stones during the course of the 120-hour general strike being called by Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) with effect from 6 pm yesterday.
A large number of strike supporters enforced the general strike and attacked the Tata trucks coming from Imphal along Imphal-Jiribam Road under heavy security escort.
To disperse the strike supporters, police resorted to fiing tear gas canisters.
On the other hand, speaking to media persons at Jiri Lamkhai today, convenor of JDDC Maipaksana Mangang expressed gratitude to Meira Paibis for their support to the ongoing general strike.
Maipaksana said that the Demand Committee has been noting down the registration numbers of the vehicles plying on the highway in defiance of the strike call for taking up necessary action.
