RMC massacre incident remembered

Imphal, January 07:
The eighth death anniversary for the victims of the RMC (Now RIMS) incident on 7 January 1995 due to indiscriminate firing by CRPF personnel was observed today at RIMS gate.
A memorial stone for the nine victims was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Ph Parijat Minister FCS.
The nine victims were Momi Riba a medical student of RIMS, L Pradeep Sharma, W Upendra, S Premchand, H Khogen, RK Khogen, Angom Devendra, K Rajendra and Md Jakir.
The donors of the memorial stone are L Nandakumar Minister MAHUD, Law, H Joychandra, Late S Amusana Devi, Ksh Chandrahas and W Inao.
Ph Parijat addressing the gathering said every persons have a right to live.
No one can violate it.
To kill a man without any reason is a violation of human rights.
We should fight for our rights he said.
The organizing Committee honoured Irom Chanu Sharmila who is now on a hunger strike in jail demanding repeal of black laws like Special Armed Forces Powers Act 1958 from the state.
She was given the title 'Defender of human rights'.
Dr Dhanabir Laishram and RK Ronendrajit spoke on the occasion regarding human rights issues.
The Board of Trustees of the RIMS Firing Victims Memorial Trust, the Young Physique Union, Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikal Development Organisation and Meira Paibi Apuna Lup organised the function.
