Imphal, September 26 2010:
Four cadres of a KCP-MC faction who came to threaten a pradhan in connection with monetary demand were rounded up and one hand grenade seized by the villagers before handing them over to the police.
The incident took place near Moirang Kampu Khewa Keithel under Imphal East district police this afternoon.
Talking to mediapersons in the evening today, Pradhan of Moirang Kampu Gram Panchayat Wayengbam Dhiren informed that among the four rounded up cadres, one of them identified himself as a police commando of Imphal West and said that they have come at the behest of a Police Inspector.
Giving further details about the incident, the Pradhan said that at around 1 pm today, he was inspecting construction work of RCC drainage being taken up under MGNREGS when one unidentified youth came up to him.
While talking with the youth, another youth also came and the latter contacted a person on his mobile phone.
Handing over the mobile phone to him, the youth said it is their 'senior' and asked him to talk.
But the Pradhan did not take the mobile phone.
This led to a heated argument.
At that moment one of the youths handed over a packet containing hand grenade to the Pradhan.
The two youths were, however, rounded up when the villagers rushed in and later handed them over to the custody of Imphal East District Police Commandos.
When the villagers interrogated them, the two rounded up youths identified themselves as Rohit (27) of Terakhongsangbi but staying at Keishampat in connection with his study and Nanao (27), an autodriver from Phougakchao Maning Leikai but staying at Lamphel.
One of the brothers of Rohit is said to be running a mobile phone handset repairing shop called AD Mobile Repairing Centre just opposite to the petrol pump at Uripok and at the advice of this brother they have come along with some people in a Santro car from Kakwa to hand over the bomb packet to the Pradhan.
While the interrogation was going on, two middle aged person came in a scooter at the residence of the Pradhan at around 4 pm.
At first, they identified themselves as personnel of Imphal West Police Commandos and said that they have come at the behest of a police officer.
However, when the villagers surrounded them, they admitted themselves as KCP-MC cadres.
The two middle-aged persons who were subsequently rounded up by the villagers have been identified as Angom Angouba (45) s/o late Thambalngou of Toubul Awang Leikai and Laishram Ibohal Singh s/o (late) Menjor of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi.
Both of them have also been handed over to the custody of the Police Commandos.
One fake identity card, one driving license and mobile hand set were recovered from the possession of Angouba.
The SIM card recovered from Angouba is said to have be used frequently in issuing threats to the Pradhan in the past.
Villagers of Moirang-kampu have not only denounced such threats but also expressed suspicion over the possible involvement of police commandos in such incidents.
