Money in cash amounting to Rs 2.38 lakh from a non-local has been reportedly looted away by some persons suspected police personnel from his way to Imphal Airport today at about 9.30 am.
Following complaint lodged by the non-local identified as Harinarayan Singh (30) son of Paranarayan hailing from Chawla district of Bihar currently residing at Uripok regarding the incident, Singjamei police registered a case and started investigation into the case, an official source said.
Even though, the complainant expressed suspected the looters as police commando personnel, SP, Imphal west said that at the said time which the complainant said snatched away of amount, no commando personnel were detailed at the said place.
The incident occurred when he was proceeding towards the Imphal airport for catching a Guwahati bound flight today as per the complaint lodged by Harinarayan to the police reportedly stated.
Six persons including to armed persons coming on a DI-Tata forcibly stopped him before reaching the airport and taken away him upto Ningombam Lamkhai and released him after taking away the amount in his possession, the report said.
The amount has been taken away by the miscreants by threatening the non-local who is running a cosmetic and hand ring shop at Thangal Bazar.
He was about to go Guwahati to procure his business items.
He was going with three persons in an auto rickshaw upto airport.
When the auto-rickshaw was about to reach the airport some persons said to be police commando personnel stopped them for frisking and checking.
After leaving other occupants of the auto-rickshaw, they carry him upto Ningombam Lamkhai and with a threaten to kill, took away the money from his possession and leave him by giving Rs 50 only, the report said.
Harinarayan told the incident to a woman vender of Khwai Bazar and weep.
As suggested by the woman vender, he went to police and lodged complaint.
But, police source said that based on his complaint, they had interrogated him but no reasonable reply to the fact and circumstances leading to the involvement of police personnel could be extracted.
Harinarayan is appeared to be a using intoxicated item and apart from this he is not seem to be a man who can afford such an amount.
But police are trying to find the truth behind the complaint.
