Imphal, August 22 2014 :
Sudden overnight rains caused flash floods in the capital Imphal on Friday with all major rivers swelling as rainfall continued.
Concerned over the swollen rivers which could damage the banks and cause massive flood due to the torrential rains, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip today visited inundated areas in Imphal and also inspected the river banks.
During the visit, Ngamthang, who was accompanied by IFCD officials, appealed to all residents settling along the river banks of Imphal and Nambul rivers to dismantle their houses.

He warned that the authority will be forced to evict all the illegal settlers on the river banks if the houses are not dismantled by the owners quickly.
Informing that the Flood Fighting Team at the IFCD office, Khoyathong is now all prepared to counter any emergency, the Minister said service of the team will be available to the public 24 hours.
Ngamthang also sought cooperation from the public in facing natural disasters like floods.
In many places such as Lamphel DC Office, Uripok Kangchup road, Kwairamband market, Sagolband, Nagamapal and Keishamthong in Imphal city have now been submerged by incessant rain water.
