A meeting of the Tangkhul Civil Society leaders convened by NPMHR and OIKOS Protection Forum Ukhrul held today strongly condemned the arrest of civil society leaders at Imphal for protesting unlawful action of the government and demanded unconditional release of the leaders and activists at the earliest.
A statement of NPMHR, Ukhrul signed by Alung Rungsung informed that the meeting was held at Ukhrul to review the current scenario in the state and it also resolved to continue agitation till the "infamous draconian act AFSPA" is repealed and the Cabinet decision of O Ibobi to deploy IRB and police commandos in the hill districts of Manipur is withdrawn.
"The state is highly militerised causing insecurity to people innocent public.
Over the years enmerable innocent people have lost their precious lives," the statement went on to express adding that the state government which is considers being the people's government turned a deaf ear to the protest of the people who voted the government to power.
The meeting also calls upon each and every person concern to rise and fight the state sponsored terrorism and free ourselves from the "evil" government.
