State health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat today said that the state is marching ahead towards total eradication of leprosy speaking at the Anti-Leprosy Day today at Rupmahal Theatre, Imphal.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function organised by the Manipur State Leprosy Society implementing the National Leprosy Eradication Programme, the minister said it is the worldwide programme to eradicate the disease which even leaves leaves individuals handicapped.
As per a report there are only 38 people affected by leprosy in the state of Manipur.
This showed that the target of total eradication of the disease from the state is within reach.
There is possibility of total eradicating the disease from the soil of the state, the minister said confidently.

The disease which was once considered dreaded no more a serious disease.
It can be cured with multi-therapy method of treatment within a period of six to one year.
There is no hear to fear the disease, he said.
In the Anti-leprosy Day observation function held today, a rally from office premise of the directorate of family welfare to Rupmahal Theatre was taken out.
Opening of a photo-exhibition, offering of floral tribute to the photograph of Mahatma Gandhi, distribution of cloths and edibles to the leprosy patients marked the occasion.
The observance function was presided over by additional director, Dr Y Yaima.
Chairman of PDA Dr Ksh Loken and vice president of All Manipur Nupi Marup, M Sakhi also attended as guests of honour.
