'Irabot believes in unity not violence'

Remembering the Hijam Irabot during a function organized by Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC) at G P Women College on Friday, Principal of TG Higher Secondary School T Pramodini Devi has stated that Irabot never believed in violence but in unity among the people.
Speaking as one of the Presidium members of the function, Pramodini said that Irabot was a good teacher, artiste, writer, sportsperson and revolutionary all roll into one but he sacrificed everything for the people of Manipur.
He was strongly against the feudal system of the then Manipuri King and resigned from being a member of Durbar.
She further observed that if not for the strong protest raised by Irabot against the formation of Purvanchal, there might not have a state called Manipur and a separate government.
Principal of CC Higher Secondary School RK Tamphasana, who was another presidium member, stated that there is not a single leader who can be compared with Irabot.
In the present tumultuous social condition, a sincere leader like Irabot is very essential.
If we want to make a better Manipur we should learn and inculcate the sacrificing spirit of Irabot.
Principal of Johnstone Higher Secondary School L Indu Devi noted that earlier there were very less number of organizations observing Irabot day.
However, with realization on the importance of a good leader like him, the whole people have started observing the entire September month as Irabot month.
She also appealed to the students to follow the path shown by Irabot by not abusing drugs and intoxicants, which can harm our health.
Recounting the life story of Irabot, Principal of GP Women's College Y Chandrasakhi Devi said that following the death of a police officer on 27th July 1948, the then government issued an arrest warrant against Irabot and as a result he became an underground and remained hiding.
Urging the people of the Manipur to replace the term Jana Neta by Manipuri term-Lamyanba (Pioneer) L Umakanta, President of JSCC said that he (Irabot) formed various women's organizations and he was one of the main guiding force behind the second Nupilal in 1939 .
ON the other hand, as part of the Irabot Month celebration, Manipur Loumi Marup observed 64th Manipur Kanba Numit at Moidangpok Khunou's Community Hall in Imphal West today.
Speaking at the function, Sarat Salam, CPI (Marxist), Secretary State Unit encouraged the farmers to take an important role towards strengthening democracy by not giving votes to corrupt politicians.

As part of the State-wide Irabot celebration month, Hijam Irabot Memorial Trust (HIMCT) and Agriculture Labour Union Manipur (ALUM) also jointly hosted a memorial function at Pishum Oinam Leikai's statue complex of the late leader today.
Director of Fisheries K Saratkumar, Former Minister Jayentakumar, Joint Secretary of Indigenous Kuki People's Forum Lian Gangte, Director of Sericulture Ginsamang Simte, Director of Veterinary Saidokhum Joute and President of HIMCT were among other who attended the event as Presidium members.
Nongpok Imphal Loumi Apunba Lup (NILSA) has organized a commemorative function at Palace Compund's Lamyanba Sanglen.
Presided over by H Ibohal, President, NILSA, the function was also attended by R K Anand, MLA (Naoria Pakhanglakpa AC) as Chief Guest and N Binoy, President of Mapi Council; Y Ratankumar, Secy of NILSA, attended as guest of Honours.
