General Officer Commanding, 57 Mtn Divn, Maj Gen DS Hooda today inaugurated the main gate to the Leimakhong Military Station, to be known as Koubru Dwar.
Rhythms of Manipur, a musical band of Imphal, added an aesthetic atmosphere to the glittering ceremony of the inauguration of the Koubru Dwar.
The musical band presented folk songs eulogising the significance of Mount Koubru at the ceremony.
A large number of cheerful men, women and children attired in their best traditional and contemporary dresses assembled at Leimakhong.
Addressing the large crowd comprising members of various communities settled at Leimakhong and surrounding areas, Gen Hooda said that the gate has been named in honour of the beauty and people of this wonderful state.
In the following event attended by large audience of the local areas, the Red Shield Division announced a few Military Civic Action projects.
'Health Angels Project' for training of 14 girls selected from the rural areas all over the state in nursing course at CMC, Koirengei was announced during the event.
The aim of Health Angels project is to train and equip the girls as nurses so that once the girls return to their villages, they could extend medical care to the needy people in their areas where medical facilities are lacking.
Amongst the other major projects announced for the state was a unique initiative 'Know your State' programme for the youth of Manipur wherein children from across the state are being taken to other districts to learn about the rich culture and traditions of their State.
Also, a project for construction of a computer training center at Leimakhong for conducting computer literacy courses for the youth and a market shed at Leimakhong market for local vendors from villages in and around Leimakhong were announced during the event.
Maj Gen DS Hooda then presented sewing and embroidery machines to women groups from the villages of Ebenezer and Saparmaina in Senapati district and Lilong Dam in Thoubal district as part of the women empowerment and employment generation project.
Gen Hooda also felicitated cadet M Stallion for being the first product of the Disha hostel to be selected for Imphal Sainik School.
At the end of the ceremony, a musical show was organised by the division for the civil audience.
Red Shield Division has planned conduct of 150 Military Civic Action projects in year 2010.Gen Hooda said that the division has placed interests of the people as the core of these projects and that the prime focus will be on creating self employment generation schemes, developing basic infrastructure such as community halls, schools, water and electricity supply; women and youth empowerment to include sponsoring of deserving students for professional courses, excursion and educational tours to metropolitans, etc and medical care to include med camps in remote areas with emphasis on Anti AIDS and drug addictism campaign~.
A seminar on 'Operational Ethos', for the officers of the Red Shield Division was conducted thereafter at Leimakhong.
The seminar focused on reiterating Division's commitment of conducting people friendly operations and to lay down future strategy to achieve ultimate aim of bringing normalcy and initiating development in the State.
