All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers' and Pullers' Welfare Association has handed over Rs 10,020 to family members of deceased rickshaw puller and member of the association , Ningthoujam Giri of Thongjao Mamang Leikai, Thoubal today at Manipur Press Club here with a simple function.
The amount � collected from members the association � was handed over to the wife of the deceased rickshaw puller.
Speaking on the occasion, social worker M Prafullo said rickshaw pullers are supporting their family with the meager income they earn through their own sweats.
He extolled them to carry on their works without any hesitation or devaluating their profession.
President of the AMRDPA, L Subhash Sharma said the government should at least undertake a policy for the welfare of rickshaw pullers who are earning livelihood with their sweats.
He observed that there have been several instances when sick rickshaw pullers passed away in the absence of any treatment due to poverty.
The president noted that the rickshaw pullers had never demanded to the government to pay them rice or kerosene or other necessities.
He expressed his desire that the government provides free medicine and treatment in times of illness.
