Imphal, January 27 2009: A GET TOGETHER function of the villagers and the newly inducted 28 AR was organised under the aegis of HQ 9 Sector Assam Rifles at the football ground of Namching (Maha Kabui) village at Keithelmanbi today.

Commander, HQ 9 Sector Assam Rifles, Brig SK Jha was the chief guest and the commandant of 28 AR, Col SC Rana and chief of Namching village Rajanglung Gangmei were guests of honour at the function.

Groups of women, youths and school children presented traditional and folk dances and songs at the function.

Brig SK Jha presented gifts of sports items, such as football, volleyball, nets, etc to the village youths in order to promote and encourage sports amongst the youths.

He also gave away gift hampers to those who took part in the dance and music presentations.

The Commander, HQ 9 Sector AR, while speaking at the meeting, also promised the villagers to select and adopt meritorious students of the village to give them education.

Poor families of the village were distributed ration free of cost on the occasion.

Brig SK Jha re-assured the villagers of the commitment of the Assam Rifles to ensure safety and comfort of the locals.

He termed it as a first step towards identifying such needy villages, and also assured that some more villages would be adopted in similar fashion in the coming times.

He said, among the things mentioned in the memorandum submitted by the villagers, what the AR could take up would be surely taken up, and what the state government should do would be intimated by writing to the government authorities and urge the government to take up.

The village chief expressed gratitude and thanks for the noble gesture of the AR.
