Six activists of KCP Tabungba Meetei among whom five women activists among them two with their children and an IRB personnel allegedly involved in extortion activities were apprehended by a team of the Imphal east police commandos from Kakwa Lilando Lampak last night, Imphal east district police said today.
They were activists of the group involved in various incidents like firing at the house of the people, attacking to the oil pumps, at the hospitals including the recent incident of firing at the house of pradhan of Uchekon Gram Panchayat, Deban, said SP, Th Radheshyam today.
The five women have been identified as Ayekpam ningol Thingujam ongbi Kiranmala alias Inaobi (30) wife of Th Bijen of Khongman Zone-I, Konjengbam ningol Okram ongbi Pushpa alias Asha alias Abe (29) wife of O Kiran of Sekmaijin Phoubakchajao, Asang Kanthingti alias Asha alias Lunate Sangthra alias Shanshang (29) daughter of Vohlun Kangthungti of Tapokpi village of Chandel district, Anju Thapa @ Lhing (25) daughter of Jana of Porum Khullel Uyumpok of Lamlai and Aboi Waiphei (31) daughter of Laisianthang Waiphei of Kangbai.
The male activist was identified at Ngul Khohao alias Haoneu (22) son of Sangkhlam of V Munlai of Churachandpur.
He is the personnel of the 6th IRB (rifleman no.6070557) posting at Maphou Dam who joined the group in the month of January 2009. Even though they were apprehended at separate timing from the same area, the SP said adding that from the possession of the first group which the apprehension was made at about 9.30 pm, police seized one .6 revolver, one live round of 9 mm pistol, one live round of M-16 ammunition and five demand letters.
Others activists of the group were nabbed by the commando team in the followed up action to the disclosure made by the IRB man who was nabbed with two other women.
From the later group, police recovered a .32 pistol with magazine loaded with two live rounds and one demand letter of KCP.
From interrogation, police came to know that Kiranmala and Puspa were active members of KCP organization and Kiranmala and Puspa were arrested by the police earlier also in connection with an FIR no.10 (9) 09 of Irilbung Police Station under section 17/20 UA (P) A Act, 2004, the SP said.
They were produced in front of media persons today at the office of the Imphal east SP, Th Radheshyam.
The SP said that Kiranmala and Puspa used to carry their little child to going to serve the demand letters as a trick to avoid public suspect to them.
The gun used in the firing at the house of pradhan Dewan recently was allegedly carried by Kiranmala.
She handed over the gun to Aboi.
Police quoting information extracted from the women activists said that they got commission of Rs 500 to 1000 for serving one demand letter each.
Revealing that ill-fated women and widows are being utilized by undergrounds in carrying out their extortion activities, SP Radeshyam has appealed the general people to be careful and also urged the people to inform the police if any women with child found moving in their respective area in suspicion manner.
