Imphal, December 23, 2013:
Strongly reacting against the media report on Monday that had quoted the statement of some Muslim student organisations, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio stated that the allegations levelled against him by these student bodies were politically motivated and called it 'danger.' Addressing the media at the Old Secretariat here, Gaikhangam asserted the ruling Congress believes in secularism and it has been witnessed by the people that the O Ibobi Government is relentlessly taking up different programmes for all the communities to bring equal development.
"I've never spoken any word against any community nor tried to hurt the sentiment of any particular community so far," the Deputy Chief Minister said.
He warned that irresponsible statement should not be made by any group or organisation because wrong message could lead to a dangerous situation.
"Any report of such types which are critical in nature must be consulted first with the authority to avoid danger," he further warned the media.
Gaikhangam also said that the Muslim student bodies blaming the state Home Department for a baseless statement that had claimed that "Some 20 Muslim youths from Manipur had gone to Al-Qaida for military training" was really unfortunate.
He said even if the statement was that of former DGP of Manipur Police, it was really unfortunate and disclosing such sensitive reports in a hasty manner without establishing the fact was a bad idea.
