The civil societies of Manipur have jointly resolved to fight against atrocities meted out to women and children in Manipur.
In a public meeting organized by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of N Renubala and her daughter Alva at Khongjom Community Hall in Khongjom market today resolved to launch agitation against atrocities meted out to women and children in the state.
The meeting also took six resolutions in this regards.
Secretary Organisation, HERICOUN, Basanta Salam, Field Executive, Centre for Social Development, Dr Memchoubi, Vice President, UCM, Y Nabachandra, President, NEEPCO, Sunil Karam, and Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee Bishnupur, L Pishak spoke in the meeting as resource persons.
In the public meeting, President of the JAC, Kh Yaiphabi, Pradhan, Sapam Gram Panchayat, S Rameshwor, Secretary, United Muslim Women's Association, Sitara Bhegum, President MEEKHOL, A K Janaki, Member, Langathel Jilla Parishad, S Ibetombi, President, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi, Memchoubi and Social Worker, P Brojen were on the dais as presidium members.
Joint Action Committee was formed as the death of N Renubala and Alva on July 18 at Salungpham Mayai Leikai allegedly due to consumption of agricultural insecticides was suspected to be carried out by the family members of the deceased and today's meeting took six resolutions.
The resolutions includes demand for due punishment to the killers under the law of the land, filing chargesheet against the killers for delivering early justice.
The meeting also demanded not to convert Thoubal district a place for heinous crime, it also urged for effective measures to check crimes against women and children, to materialize the their demands all the civil societies and JACs formed against brutal killings of women and child have agreed to jointly launched agitations.
The meeting also decided to approach Chief Minister for his intervention in their resolutions.
It may be mentioned that the husband of Late Renubala, Sarangthem Bishworjit and her mother-in-laws S Sanahanbi were on police remand for another five days after the completion of three day police remand for further interrogation.
