Chongtham Samarendra passes away

Imphal, September 11 2011:
Man of letter, well known columnist, writer, commentator and one of the more articulate senior citizens of the land, Chongtham Samarendra is no more.
He was 77 .
Chongtham Samarendra, who was a regular columnist with the Manipuri edition of The Sangai Express died when a truck knocked him down at Khagempalli Huidrom Lekai at about 9.30 am today.

A resident of Keishamthong Lop Leirak, Samarendra is survived by his wife Dr C Sheilaja Devi and five children.
To pay respect to the departed soul, the staff of The Sangai Express observed a two minute silence today afternoon.
Besides contributing to the newspapers, Samarendra authored five books.
