Youth waiting for surrender dies

Imphal, April 29 2011:
An 18 year old youth who was handed over to the Army to surrender died under mysterious circumstances.
Salam Sanjoy alias Bono (18) s/o Kamini of Tera Moirang Hanuba Leirak under Lamphel police station Imphal West district was handed over to 12th Maratha Light Infantry attached to Patsoi police station by some women including his mother Sushila this morning.
Bono collapsed inside the 12th MLI post and he succumbed on the way to RIMS.
Contending that Bono died due to torture inside the army camp, a large number of people belonging to Tera Moirang Hanuba Leirak vandalised the house of one Ningthoujam (N) Kabita Devi located at Takyel Kolom Leikai.
The family members and the local people alleged that Bono was handed over to army at the insistence of Kabita Devi.
The crowd was however put under control by a team of Imphal West District Police.
SDPO N Madhunimai also came to the spot.
On the other hand, a police source informed that around 40 SP capsules and four N-10 tablets were recovered from the possession of Bono.
There was no injury marks on his body.
Yet, police have not yet claimed that Bono died due to drug overdose.
Bono was earlier arrested by police for having nexus with a UG group.
Later in the evening a public meeting was held at Moirang Hanuba Leirak Machin with MLA S Kunjakishore even as police have been keeping a tight vigil in the area to avert any untoward incident.
